4th scratch class. -in this class students made a "penguin eats the fish game" The goal was to teach 1. Random numbers 2. Clones 3. Variables Class began with me outlining today's topics. H explained the topics in more detail. She made sure everyone knew what Clone meant I didn't prepare any slides. I think I showed the project we were going to make right after explaining the agenda? I can't remember. I made a demo project. I made a project where clicking the cat makes a clone of the cat and the clone moves to a random postion. I got some "oooo"s. Then I explained/showed you can do the same thing with color effect: now all the clones have different colors. More "oooo's". I think I used a "glide to" block and this came back to haunt us later. Alight everyone open your laptops - let's started. Initially I showed movement code for the penguin and everyone copied. J and O has their usual trouble, but still did ok. Then we moved on to the clone code. I only have 1 TV and I didn't make handouts so I can only show students how to do one thing a time. I walked around more than usual this class. I tried to help more. I kept my program less featureful than most students. Earlier I got the sense that I should try to inspire the students and give them more ideas. But this class I kept my project mostly plain. I didn't have won/lose:score. Students figured that out on their own. I had icons for things on the whiteboard. That helped. I tried to explain the bug twice to everyone. Some people got it. First I tried to demonstrate by qalkkkf past Hai Tao. But that didn't teach anything. I think it was Hai Tao teaching them in completely her own way that did it. She made W explain it back to her and Hai Tao was satisfied. J and O got special attention from me this class. J produced a working project and so did O. O us a more meticulous copier so his code didn't have the bug. Hai Tao also spent a lot of time with them and went over the XY grid. C recognized gf had a bug and was able to tell me avbout it. One kid had aliens eating octopus. Cat eating mice. C had clones of clones in her final project. One person had 2 human player 2 ppl had 1 NPC. They were sitting next to each other. Emma had a drive by debug. She successfully figured out an unintended delete statement
